January Updates...
This Month:
Gabe's doing well in school. We have PT conferences in February but I'm personally amazed at how much his reading has improved - shoot, at the beginning of school he wasn't Reading! Now he Is! He comes home with little books for homework and reads through them just great. I love to listen to him sound out the words and work through the pages... So Much Progress in such a short time. :)
Gabe started out a very rowdy student who at times didn't listen to the teachers, but I could tell from the first PT conference that his teacher does like him and could see that his behavior usually was a direct result of X (X being - too cold to run and play outside, too much going on with the holidays, not feeling well, etc.) I'm so glad he has the teacher that he does. He really enjoys school
Gabe came home this month saying they learned about king luther junior who said the right things but got killed, and that he even knew something like that ould happen but he did it more. After talking it out, he finally remembered the right name: Martin Luther King Junior. (And he insisted you say the Junior every time.) Love this boy! He also told his dad the State Animal was the Buffalo Turtle, then decided it was the Buffalo, then decided it was a Box Turtle. :)
Ashton is still, at heart, a wild man. Any day he is good in school is a day he isn't feeling well. ;) I say that mostly in jest - because he is Such a Sweet boy - but the energy and the willpower he has are also just incrediable. I pick him up and just know the feedback on his day will be mixed - and yet, I can't help but think he is also a favorite among his teachers. I'm lucky to have Smart Boys! :)
Ashton has days when he loves school and days when he hates to go to school. He never wants to go back to school on Monday mornings, especially, but then half the time I pick him up he doesn't want to go home!
Ashton has Homework too - coloring, mostly. Shapes, colors, those kinds of activities... I can tell it makes him happy to be a big boy and I think it is great prep for him going into pre-school next year.
The boys are at the half-marks. 6 months from now I will be saying, "My boys are 6 and 4." :( How sad it is that they don't stay little. I love this stage they're at and I'm just wanting to keep them here. They're fun and they play and have fun together. A lot of times they don't want to do the same thing, but they're still entertaining themselves or each other and they enjoy play time together. They're so great and fun...
This month:
Jermie and I booked a vacation! This summer we will stay at a resort on Cofresi Beach, spend a day at Ocean World, climb the "27 Waterfalls" and enjoy the sun, ocean and sand... Ahh - vacation! It's also our first couples vacation with Jamie and Brady since...Spring Break? I don't know how long - but it will be great fun and we are excited!
Jermie did a TON of work in the kitchen. Walls - textured and painted. Floors - heating wiring set, tiles laid. I love my natural slate tiles... I am pretty spoiled with all the nice things going into that kitchen! So glad he has the vision to put it all together. Half the time I'm nodding and smiling thinking I have No Clue whether this should be that or vica versa, but if you saw it now... there's no doubt my kitchen is going to turn out amazing. It's like I can finally see it the way he's been seeing it all along... Ahhh! :) BIG thanks to Fonda and Joe who stayed the weekend with us and to Joe for helping Jermie with the tile - Much Appreciated!
I'm teaching 3 Classes - the most I've taught at once. Comp II & Public Speaking to the WHS seniors (both very small classes) and a Comp II evening class. It's been going pretty great and I enjoy it - although this is the first time I've ever taught the same students two semesters in a row. It makes a difference - both good and bad! As much as I do like it, I think of it as a kind of luxury that I don't have to do it every day! :)
We started something new: Monday Night Cards. :) We've rotated homes for hosting it and it's a bring the kids night, eat cheap pizza, and once the kids are fed hope for as few interruptions as possible while you chat and play cards. I'm keeping the highest "O Hell" scores on my FaceBook page and thinking that at some great time there should be some great award for the highest score... (Which, by the way, won't go to me!) :)
Sorry to ramble and post without pictures, but I'm pretty sleepy and calling it a night.... Hope January was great for you. If we didn't get together this month - hope we see you soon! ;)

Colorado!
Jermie and I took a trip to Colorado – stayed at the Mt. Princeton Lodge with (Jermie’s sister) Jami & Tony, sat in the hot springs pools and river, and took a long drive up into the mountains towards Aspen. Best Part – my mom and sister watched the boys for the long weekend and we were able to take the trip without the buys. A beautiful, refreshing vacation… loved it. Jami & Tony were tons of fun to hang out with and we wish we lived closer! :)
3 Christmas Catch Up
On a bright and sunny Christmas Eve, the boys and I drove down to Toronto for Christmas festivities with the family. Loved the card-playing and seeing all our boys play together. Christmas Eve & Christmas Day were both a lot of fun this year – love my family and the great sense of humor we all have and the even bigger sense of humor we expect of my mom! GLITTER IN THE AIR: Who dumps an entire tube of glitter into a Christmas Present so it will spill out on whomever opens it? My Brothers! Who tells the boys to pick the glitter/wrapping up and throw it in the air? My Brothers! I’m going to have to add that song {by Pink} to my list of Christmas songs!
So glad we all got to hang out and play cards this year, too. Love it!
2 Christmas Catch-up
Christmas at home, the morning of Christmas Eve… Our gifts to the boys, their gifts from Grandma Fonda & Papa Joe, and of course, from Santa. Gabe was Very Insistent that we do milk & cookies for Santa this year – very cute.
Ever since Christmas I’ve noticed a change in these brothers. For the most part, they enjoy playing with each other and the fights have been fewer and farther between. There’s still that sibling rivalry, but that sweetness… it’s there too! :)
Catch-up!
Christmas in Kansas City:
Sorry – don’t know why Windows Live Writer has refused to upload pictures so many times, but I’m trying once again to get our holiday pictures uploaded! Shorter blogs with each album this time – maybe that will do it?
……
Here’s a quote to go with this Christmas celebration:
“Cousins are our first Best Friends.” :)
