Catching Up!

Catching everyone up on the past goings-on of my household:
1) Jermie is remodeling the front entryway/"porch" ~ our King turtle (that's his name) has a starring role in its design!
2) Broke down and bought a $50 camera battery charger. Ugh!
3) No photo uploads yet!!
4) Spent approximately 2 hours on the phone tonight planning out Toronto Alumni events! It's crunch time and there is SO MUCH to do!
5) We had Easter portraits done this weekend. One picture of both the boys sitting beside a giant 45 pound rabbit. (That might be a slight exaggeration - but the thing was Huge!) Also, a family portrait... No proofs so I feel like ahigh schooler waiting to see what the Yearbook picture is going to turn out like!
6) No more long locks - I've cut my hair! It's now layered starting at the collarbone. (now you're even more sad that there's no pics, aren't you!?)
7) Jermie's first reaction was total surprise - and then sadness to see my long hair gone - then, eventually, reassurance that he likes it and that it looks good! ;)
8) The boys were not involved in any traumatic escapades this weekend, though they did have some embarrassing melt-downs while out shopping with me on Saturday (for outfits to wear in Easter pics) - ugh! Ashton sits in the cart for a whole five seconds before spring-loading himself out or around it and eventually around the store.
9) Not only did I threaten to "pull this van over and give spankings"... I literally had to pull over and take some very deep, slow breaths before giving each a swat on the hand. More deep breaths, proceed on. :/
10) We have a new pet! It's a fish that came with our new 5-foot long aquarium Jermie found from a CraigsList post in Wichita. A great deal on both! (Well, the fish was free.) He's a big, mean-looking garr. A nice companion for our big, mean-looking turtle! Haven't named him yet... So far we have Kidd, Kia and King (turtle). Any (K) suggestions for our mean mister fish?

Alrighty, better get something done before Jermie gets home from class and I have to turn the computer off! :-)

Immature reconciliation vent ???

Today was a busy one at the office. It was my boss' birthday, so it was also an upbeat and happy day - when we could keep it that way. We spoke at a Chamber Coffee this morning - 80 people packed into the donut shop. Several of whom I knew well from working at the paper. Lots of happy, nice greetings - lots of smiles and a few shoulder-hugs. Felt great.

Then a tall brunette walked up and said, "Hi, I'm --- the new marketing rep for Angels Care Home Health and I wanted to introduce myself to the Dusti everyone always tells me about." Ummm... ok. Nice to meet you too. I guess. I asked how things were going at Angels, "Oh, great, actually. Did you see that we moved?" I think... um, yeah, I was there when they toured the building and talked to the owner. I see it on Main Street every day - I still live here... I didn't say that. I mean, it might have been a softball throw in the direction of "things are easier for me than they were for you since we moved downtown." Ok... I did notice the 'actually.' Did I have a certain tone in my voice when I asked how things were? (possible but I was actually being nice.) then I said something like, "yeah, well, I know it's a hard job you do..." and I think that's about all that was said before the meeting started...

After the meeting I was talking to the Angels HH competitor - Serenity HH - marketer. I felt someone at my back the whole time - yes, her. And then the Chamber lady, Shelley, came to introduce me, again, and the Serenity marketer, to the lady at Angels... which floated like a lead balloon. It's tough in the HH world - marketers really aren't friends!

The Serenity HH marketer actually wanted to talk to me about my work and a task force she's on in Mulvane that had a meeting that was on Channel 3 Wednesday night if anyone saw it, but anyways, good to talk to her - but not about HH...

And then after even all of that, my boss and I were driving back to the high school mentioning all the different things about the morning and she announces: What about the new Angels girl? I don't like her!

And I thought - ah, I like my boss!

She said it was kind of akward the way she approached me, and that she should have waited until after to congratuate me on my new job and say something about the work we do...

I think when I saw her I instantly decided that the new Angels girl could be great - but we're not going to be friends. Why? Because I don't want to be! Because None of the people who worked there when I left are still there, save the boss whom I only knew for a couple weeks but obviously don't love... What could we have even talked about, before I started asking inappropriate questions about her number of referrals and their census!? UGH.

It's hard to meet someone who has taken over what you used to do... It's just bizarre. No, I never got comfortable in that job and only liked small portions of it - but I still tried to do it well...

I mean, last week I was having lunch with my boss and other people I work with, and the wife of a Winfield doctor - business manager at their clinic - who I used to market to, came up to my table, said hello, asked how I was and what I was doing now, and said she missed my smile. :-) Awww...

SO... that just goes to show that I couldn't have been that bad at what I did.
Right!?

I guess that's what this all boils down to... Never, ever would I want that job back, but still I struggle with reconciling the way it ended and whether or not it was something I did well. Sometimes I tell myself yes - other times no. God knows it was a struggle, but I did put up a pretty darn good fight...

Ah, so it goes.

90% Discipline

Two boys - almost 2 and almost 4 - what do I expect but to be challenged continually?

But, right now, I swear, my life with the boys is 90% discipline and 10% free and easy time with them. It's always - "No!" "Stop!" "Quit!" "Get Down" and other exclamations used to prevent harm or destruction!

Ashton is the one who watches me while he does naughty things, smiling at me and daring me to get after him again. Gabe is the one who gets in trouble for things he says - sometimes the way he talks to me, sometimes his brother, sometimes a naughty word, sometimes a lie... He's getting bossy and know-it-all-ish. He's going to be quite the negotiator and debater!

Reading back on what I had to say about Gabe at this age I see a lot of the same challenges. It seems like he hit his "Terrible Twos" right before he turned 2... The "Feuding Fours" is what Grandma Peggy called it - appropriately titled - but new challenges for me and difficult to see my sweet boy becoming so grown up and assertive!

Oh, man, is it ever a RIDE! I'm still hanging on! Just using those 10% moments to catch my breath before I begin the chase again! ...

10-47

And did I mention...

On the way home from Wichita on Sunday night, I was riding with Joe and we were following the van. Jermie was driving the van with his mom & sister talking, Ashton sleeping and Gabe, with headphones on, was watching a DVD. Joe and I saw the van quickly brake to a stop, and we Kansans know what that means -- car vs. deer accident. :-/

It was actually a group of deer that were crossing the road. Jermie saw them and was braking for them, but one straggeler wouldn't move and got hit. He then ran into the ditch, hopped the fence, and - lets pretend - lived happily ever after.

Gabe didn't know anything had happened - except that the van stopped quickly so he said "Whoa!" before watching the movie again. And Ashton never woke up!

The van drove home, no problems. Smells "hot" but the temperature hasn't read any different than normal. The headlights didn't get smashed, but the drivers corner of the hood has a buckle in it and the drivers side door is also dented.

Tomorrow we will have an insurance adjuster come look at it, and then we will see what the damages are.

SO GLAD it wasn't any worse and that no one was hurt!

Monday

First: A confession
I have lost the battery charger for my camera. I've been looking for the last two weeks while my battery power has slowly diminished... We will have to by a new charger &/or a new battery before I can take new pictures... how sad is that? All these great things we did this weekend, no pictures. :/

One thing that would have been impressive by photo: before & now pictures of the front porch. The panelling is coming down and sheet rock is going up. The wall between the porch and guest bedroom - we dream of building in a big aquarium for the turtle. The flooring dream - we looked at some gorgeous marble tiles and some carpeting. Lighting and ceiling fans, to be determined. One new purchase: a large clock that also tells temperature and humidity - masculine but also classy. We're working on it! Actually, Jermie is - and he worked on it all day Thursday, Friday, and some Saturday.

We're also dreaming of a salsa garden for this spring. Have tomatoes and peppers sprouting, a few other veggies and flowers, too.

Who would have dreamed up this winter weather this weekend though? On Friday afternoon my boss and I ran errands in Wellington, barely wearing jackets, soaking in some sun. "You think it's really going to snow this weekend?"

Well, we all know the answer to that now! By Friday night when we were taking the boys to Gambinos I was feeling like a bad mommy for not bundling them up with hats and gloves - and in Winfield it just snowed and snowed and snowed. Saturday morning Jermie shoveled the walk, an hour later all we see is snow. HUGE, beautiful snowflakes. Building up to 5 foot drifts out by Grandma Peggys!

I did take the boys out in the snow on Saturday afternoon - just to run around the yard, make snow angels, catch snowflakes on our tongues, and throw snowballs at our tree. We tried to make a snowman...well, we made him actually, then Gabe Gleefully fell on top of it proclaiming "CRUSHED!" It was funny. Ashton thought we were crazy. Gabe thought I was crazy a little while later when I got a heaping pile of snow in my arms and smashed my face in it - then that became the game for a little while! :-) It was silly and we loved it.

After dinner and after the boys were asleep, Alli came down and Jill and Adam came over. They brought their PS3 and Singstar and the three of us girls sat on the couch singing our hearts out until after 3 a.m. :-) We were really rocking out! lol. Alli and Jill are both really good, actually. I have some songs I like to sing seriously and emotionally, and then I laugh through the rest. Jermie and Adam came in for some rounds, some duets, some duels, but it was mostly a night of singing girly rock ballads. Lots of Fun!

On Saturday night Jermie talked to his mom and sister, who were out in Liberal, and made plans for them to come down on Sunday to shop in Wichita, then stay here with us Sunday night, then head back on Monday morning. So, at noon we met them at Spangles in Wichita and then headed to several Goodwill's, where Ashton got rain boots and Gabe got snow boots - both in next year's sizes - and I got a pair of dress shoes, a couple jackets, and three of those undershirts with the lace on the bottom. Jermie's find was the clock for the front porch... Then we all had a ery tasty dinner at Applebees, (it had been so long since I had had ribs - I was so happy!) a movie here with our impressive projector screen (I slept the whole way through it.)... Breakfast at McDonalds, back to the house for some conversation and for everyone to pack up...

It was especially good to see Jami, Fonda and Joe this weekend. We don't get to often enough, and especially to have Jami over, since this is about 12 hours from her home in Colorado they certainly don't make it over very often. It was kind of great, kind of chaos with the boys so excited, and kind of sad because it was so quick, but definately always good to spend time with family.

Jermie spent the day at home, working on homework - accounting/business math - he's stressing a mid-term tonight. I don't envy him one bit!

I also spent the day at home. With company this morning, then the boys went to Grandma Peggys while I came home to work online designing a postcard to promote an upcoming event and also a Website for our grant. Will probably do more of that tonight, as well as design a newspaper ad to promote the Toronto Alumni dinner and dance. Guess I have been in a designing mood, because I also changed my blog background and have been dreaming of creating some PhotoBooks for the boys. (If anyone has made one, let me know which site you used and if you loved it!)

Guess I'd better wrap up this novel and get dinner going for the boys. I've promised them leftover BBQ Dinosaur. :-)

Blog guilt

A Quickie: Yesterday afternoon I went into the upstairs bathroom, and Ashton had taken his pants off and was sitting in his diaper in the cat’s litter box. He turned and grinned at me when I walked in. I can’t even guess what in the world he was thinking – but was actually pretty darn funny! Once you get past, obviously, that it was also pretty gross! (The cat wasn’t involved!)

I was home yesterday with the boys - got done nowhere close to as much as I wanted to. Had dinner guests last night - fun, but I'm sure we overwhelmed them with chaos and I'm never sure that we make a great impression when we're trying to have adult conversation in the middle of all the 'eat your dinners' and spills and everything. Also, we had Mexican food - and to that there is also some chaos in the whole 'fix your own fajita' pass this and pass that craziness.

I'm Alumni President of the Toronto initiation/banquet and dance this year, and am in the middle of getting it all pulled together with the HELP of my mom and sister in Toronto. It's somewhat intense trying to plan an event on top of everything else in my life.

I'm also standing in as Lions Club president at some meetings when he can't be there - it's so much more fun than any other public speaking I've ever had to do ...
Just call me Big Lion!

~~Chaos~~

That's just me and so it goes.

One word for this weekend: Sunshine!!! :-) Wow!

Friday night was a date night - the four of us out for Chinese food, home for baths and bedtimes, and Jermie and I watched Law Abiding Citizen, which was intense/slightly disturbing/pretty good!

Saturday morning - dancing in the living room, bacon and eggs for breakfast, a long drive through the park for Kidd to run, a sinfully good Pepsi from the gas station... A trip to the new playground ta Island Park - Love It! Hard to believe they made the park even better, but I would say they did! Ashton yelling, "Goooooo" and then running down the sidewalks, chasing/racing his brother who was on his bike. funny boys. Sandwiches, nap time, laundry, Jermie working on different projects, then getting everything ready for ...

Fantastic dinner at Matt & Alli's, then Starlight Drive In to see The Blind Side, Sherlock Holmes and The Book of Eli. :-) I was pretty excited - I'm a dork like that! Jermie and Matt actually turned the third row seat of the van around, so we could sit on that and the back bumper and watch the movies with the hatch open - comfortable and fun.

Gabe and Ashton stayed in their seats, watching movies on their screens. At bed time I tooke them out of their seatbelts, gave them lots of pillows and blankets, and Ashton was asleep immediately! :-) Gabe took a little longer to settle down - a trip to the bathroom during a great part of the movie - but all in all did very well. Later he was like, "Why did we go to that big parking lot for all night?" He also asked me once where I had been, like he didn't even know we were behind him watching our movies! :-) A fun night.

Sunday morning Jermie got up early for the first Motorcycle Run to Cassoday, Ks. The boys got up early too, which was a bad idea, since they were short on sleep - a cranky morning. But we did go outside and race around the block, sidewalk chalk, play some ball... good times. Jermie got home and we napped while the boys napped. Ahh, relaxing. Then he had a ton of homework to do and I made dinner and put the boys to bed while he worked on -math- ugh. I did miss a great Oscar Party with Sunni ~ a true bummer... Anyways, a great weekend. Jermie had class last night, and tonight Jen and friends are coming down from Wichita for Nieves ~ can't wait! Looking forward to girl time, me time, and another night of fun!

Work & Being Spoiled

First can I say, I so much enjoy having a flexible work schedule, and on some days having the boys picked up at the house by Grandma Peggy! This morning the boys were up at 6:30, same as me, (ugh - but also normal) and I just waited until I had loaded them up and sent them off before I ran in and grabbed a shower and headed out the door! Nice... :-)
Yesterday I worked all morning/afternoon to design a brochure online from my work (school) computer which ran insanely SLooooowwwW! So, this morning I am at the Winfield Public Library and must complete this brochure before my boss suspects that I spent the morning blogging or some such thing! :-) But it's going much faster and I'm much happier working on it today than I was yesterday!

That's a lot of rambling. I think I'll start a new blog to share weekend updates!

oopsie

We didn't have to take Ashton to the doctor for his little nose - no big bumps and it isn't crooked. :) Today he has a bruise between the eyes and across one cheek. It's still greenish - somewhat light. So, now that I can look at him without feeling sad/sick... here are some pics of Ashton on Monday from Grandma Peggys. ... makes you sad, huh?
So, is it Friday yet? This week I've had a meeting on Tuesday night and a Graduation night for the parenting class last night... I've been BUSY at work, neglecting the house some, and wanting to go to sleep early every night this week. Gawd, I sound like I'm getting old or something! :) Looking forward to the weekend...
Hey, I did watch the Bachelor finale... Just didn't love it. Tenley's sweetness was somewhat sickening - I'd rather the 2nd place girl knee the Bachelor in the balls and push him off the proposal platform! :-) And his proposal to Vienna, nothing spontaneous there. I know we were all supposed to come around and see how great she is - but I always thought she was forward and immature. All bedroom-eyes with the Bachelor and then possessive and braggish with the girls. Immature. Ugh.
Alli as the next Bachelorette - hmmm.... I don't think she's decisive enough or really knows what it is she wants. I can't say I have confidence she'll make good picks - but I can bet this really will be 'the most dramatic Bachelorette Ever!" :)
I'm in the mood for some movies and heard the Starlight Drive In ad on the radio this weekend... $10 carloads to see The Blind Side, Sherlock Holmes and The Book of Eli. Very good pre-Oscar picks! :)
Enough chatter this morning, better move some laundry and clean up the kitchen. Oh and get dressed and get the boys ready! Have a good one.

Not Me Monday

Haven't done this in awhile... Lets see what I can come up with...

  • Sad but true: I was not steps away from preventing Ashton a pretty bad injury when he decided to get off the top bunk...but not use a ladder. He has a swollen nose and bruised cheeks. This is something I hope to eventually forget, since it was maybe more traumatic for me than for the little guy. He still wants to play up there. I'm ready to return the whole bed! :-/
  • I am not of so little self-control that I have modified my No More Pepsi campaign to now the No More Pepsi (except on Fridays and the weekends) Campaign.
  • I am not of so little self-control that my awesome fun Kickboxing work-out routine has been this: None since about a week ago. :-/
  • I did not ruin a pot roast this weekend because - although I cooked it in the crock pot with veggies and V-8 and had all intentions of it being wonderful - it never got even close to 'tender' - bummer!? I usually have good luck with roasts...
  • I was not Super Overjoyed to order Gambinos Pizzas this Friday and have them at Half-Off for Customer Appreciation... And I'm not still eating leftover pizza... And I haven't been All Weekend!
  • Wait, I'm pretty sure that I did not *successfully* cook a Single Meal for my family this weekend... and we were home all weekend!? How did that happen?
  • I was not super bummed on Saturday when I went online to watch some Greys Anatomy and found only re-runs. I like some enjoyable TV to help me fold laundry and organize closets... bummed... dork.
  • I am not anticipating going in to work late on Tuesday morning so I can go online and catch some re-caps of the Bachelor season finale *tonight... :-) Despite not liking the Bachelor much, not liking Vienna at all, and not wanting Tenley to be heartbroken, and really not even wanting Alli to be the next Bachelorette anymore... Yeah, what is it about that show that is so Great? :-) I'm crazy...
  • Reality check - presentation at work Tuesday morning - Guess I can't make it a Bachelor Fest... unless I get up early! :-) lol.
  • I have not procrastinated the very serious and prestigious duties of Toronto Alumni President until this past weekend when I finally met with the other officers... I never procrastinate! :-)

Alright, I've got a boy to get dressed, another to wake up and get ready. And who am I kidding, I'm still in my jammies.

I'm hoping for a nice, sane week that is very productive and relatively easy to deal with...
